We are a studio with a shared focus on making thoughtful, well-resolved architecture. Each person in the team brings a distinct set of skills and experiences, contributing to a collaborative and detail-driven process from early concept through to construction. The studio is led by John Nolan and supported by a committed team with backgrounds in architecture, technology, and design.

John Nolan
MRIAI, M.Arch, B.Sc.Arch, MScMP, B.Comm

John established Sketch. in 2014 and leads the design direction of all projects in the studio. He holds a Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Commerce from University College Dublin, and a Master’s in Marketing from UCD Smurfit Business School. He previously worked with McCullough Mulvin Architects and Tierney Haines Architects on a range of award winning civic, cultural, and residential projects. He currently teaches Masters and Under-graduates at UCD and has received recognition from the RIAI, AAI, IDI, and RHA for his design work.

Naomi Hyland
M.Arch, B.Sc.Arch, B.Sc Arch. Technology

Naomi was the first team member to join Sketch. and has played a key role in shaping the studio’s workflow and culture. She brings a rare combination of design ability and technical knowledge, having completed her Master of Architecture at UCD and a degree in Architectural Technology at DIT. Her earlier work with BKD Architects included large-scale commercial projects such as Dundrum Town Centre. At Sketch., she contributes across all stages of design and documentation, with a particular focus on detail resolution and construction coordination.

Marcelo Azarias

Marcelo studied architecture in São Paulo before completing a Master’s in Dublin. His work bridges early-stage design, representation, and testing. With a strong interest in process and visual communication, he supports the development of all studio projects. Marcelo brings a cross-cultural design perspective and a clear, iterative approach to idea development.

Anna Horan
M.Arch, B.Sc.Arch

Anna is a graduate of UCC where she completed her Master and undergraduate degrees in architecture. She previously worked in a Cork-based practice, gaining experience in planning, technical documentation, and early design development.
